  Automat Camera by E & T Underwood

The Automat hand camera was manufactured by the E & T Underwood company in circa 1898-99. Constructed of mahogany and covered in leather. A simple and reliable automatic changer was capable of processing 12 quarter plate sized glass plates housed in sheaths. The top of the camera provided a manual indicator of one to twelve to advance the count of exposed plates and by which would release the sheath to be deposited in the lower part of the camera, and advancing the next plate with the same movement. The lens was an english made achromatic meniscus of fixed focus. There is a serviceable shutter and two finders to accomodate both portrait and landscape shots. The camera measures 8 x 6 1/2 x 4 inches and was originally priced at £2.
