The Artist Hand Camera was manufactured by E. Francais, Paris and marketed and sold through the London Stereoscopic & Photographic Co. Ltd. in circa 1890. Designed with two points in mind, extreme portability and compactness combined with utility. Intended for artists and cyclists on tour. The lens, instantaneous shutter and dark slides are inside hidden from view when the camera is not in use. This camera was made in three sizes, a handy 4 1/4 x 3 1/4 inch size that is very portable, it was also made in a half plate size ( 6 1/2 x 4 3/4 inches) and a 5 x 4 stereoscopic size. Prices ranged from £10 10s 0d to £15 15s 0d.
