  Spartus Super R-1 Camera

The Spartus Super R-1 camera was manufactured in circa 1956 by the Herold Products Company of Chicago, Illinois. The Super R-1 was a twin lens camera featuring a large view finder, designed as a pseudo-TLR reflex. The camera was made of plastic with a mahogany brown or black finish with a two tone name plate. The Super R-1 was capable of capturing twelve 2 1/4 x 2 1/4 inch exposures on no. 120 color or black & white roll film. It was fitted with a precision-ground, hard-coated, f7.7 Achromat lens with four lens settings and a focusing mount. It also had built-in flash synchronization, where the flash unit would mount on the screw located on the right of the camera. It was also sold in a kit for $24.95 which included eight flash bulbs and a years supply of film at no additional cost.
