The Model D, Plateless, DAYDARK Camera was manufactured by the Daydark Specialty Company of St. Louis Mo. in circa 1910. Model D was an inexpensive street camera capable of making sixty finsihed photo postcards an hour, imprinting directly on various card sizes including 1 3/4 x 2 1/2, 2 1/2 x 3 1/2, 3 x 4 1/2 inches and 1 inch photo buttons. The camera box was made of basswood covered with durable black seal grain Keratol. It included a solid leather carrying handle and the hardware was made from nickel plated. It featured an instantaneous shutter with a wire release cord. It measured 7 1/2 x 8 x 12 inches and weighed 10 pounds.
The operation included aligning the subject, taking a snap shot and then inserting your hand into the camera to move the exposed image to a tank of developing solution. Within approximately 1 minute the photograph would be developed, and can be taken out, rinsed and provided to the customer. The camera originally sold for $20.00. Tripod, cards and photographic solutions were extra.
