  Model D-4, Plateless, DAYDARK Camera

The Model D-4, Plateless, DAYDARK Camera was manufactured by the Daydark Specialty Company of St. Louis Mo. in circa 1910. Model D-4 was similar to the D-2 street camera but in a larger size. It capable of imprinting directly on multiple sizes including 1 3/4 x 2 1/2, 2 1/2 x 3 1/2, 3 x 4 1/2 or 3 1/4 x 5 1/2 inches and on 1 inch photo buttons. Like the D-2, the D-4 featured the latest improved adjustable focus and extra quick rectilinear lens called the Blitzen. It was mounted in instantaneous shutter with a wire push cord release or bulb and tube release. The lens is adjusted by pointing to a number that represents the focus distance to the camera for photos from 5 to 100 feet. The Blitzen was exclusive to daydark. The camera box was made of basswood covered with durable black seal grain Keratol. It included a solid leather carrying handle and the hardware was made from nickel plated. It measured 8 1/4 x 7 3/4 x 13 inches and weighed only 7 pounds. The camera originally sold for $30.00. The tripod, cards and photographic solutions were extra.
