The Model E, Plateless, DAYDARK Camera was manufactured by the Daydark Specialty Company of St. Louis Mo. in circa 1907. The model E was an inexpensive and small professional street camera that was capable of capturing 2 1/2 x 3 1/2 inch, 1 3/4 x 2 1/2 inch and one-inch photo button sized pictures. The camera was marketed to street vendors to be used on sidewalks and tourist locations. The operation included aligning the subject, taking a snap shot and then inserting your hand into the camera to move the exposed image to a tank of developing solution. Within 1 minute the photograph would be developed to be taken out rinsed and provided to the customer. The camera box was made of well seasoned basswood covered with fine grain leatherette, a solid leather carrying handle and nickel plated straps. The box was large enough to work and store supplies. It featured an instantaneous shutter with a six inch release cord, a rapid fixed focus lens and a folding brilliant direct view finder. This small street camera measured 6 1/2 x 6 1/2 x 10 inches and weighed 3 pounds. The DAYDARK model E camera originally sold for $12.50. Tripod, cards and photographic solutions were extra.
