The Detective Magazine or Hand Camera was manufactured by E. Suter of Basel Switzerland from circa 1894 to 1902. The camera was constructed of select mahogany finely polished. It was made with a bare wood surface or later models were covered in leather. The original design featured a unique plate changing mechanism located beside the camera body instead of in the back of it. Later models with a magazine located behind the camera. Extending the the front of the camera provides access to a view finder and the shutter release button.
