  Ansco Speedex Special "R"

The Ansco Speedex Special "R" camera was manufactured by Agfa in the US occupied zone of Germany for Ansco in circa 1952. The "R" referred to uncoupled rangefinder capability. The camera was constructed of all metal and covered in black leather. It featured a fast coated F4.5 Agfa Aptar 85mm lens in the new Prontor "SVS" shutter. The shutter is synchronized for all speeds with all bulbs and strobe with eight speeds from 1 to 1/300th of a second. The camera took twelve 2 1/4 x 2 1/4 inch square exposures on either black-and-white or color film no. 120 roll film. It also featured double exposure prevention, delayed timer for self portraits and optical eye level finder. The Ansco Speedex Special camera was priced around $57.50.
