The No. 3 & No. 3A Folding Ansco camera were manufactured by Ansco in circa 1914 to 1931. Made with round-corned aluminum covered in Persian morocco leather accompanied with a black leather bellows. The camera was typically equipped with a Modico Anastigmat f7.5 lens with a focal length of 4 7/8 and 6 1/2 inches respectively, however early models could be purchased with a symmetrical lens. The lens was mounted in several shutter options including a Capax shutter, Ilex universal, Ilex General, or a Bionic. The front provided rise, fall and slide adjustments. The cameras could take film packs or glass dry plates by the addition of a combination back attachment and adapter.
The No. 3 Folding Ansco took 3 1/4 x 4 1/4 inch negatives on Ansco no. 7A and 7B film or no. 118 Kodak film. It measured 1 7/8 x 4 1/2 x 8 1/4 and weighed 33 ounces. It was originally priced from $17.50 to $30.00 depending on the lens and shutter. With the Modico lens being the most expensive.
The No. 3A Ansco Speedex took 3 1/4 x 5 1/2 inch negatives on Ansco no. 18A and 18B film or no. 122 Kodak film. It measured 2 x 4 3/4 x 9 1/2 and weighed 42 ounces. It was originally priced from $20.00 to $32.00.
