The Shafta Camera was manufactured by Sanders & Company, successors to Sanders & Crowhurst, in circa 1910. It was a hand stand pattern primarily designed for Natural History photography, although the movements lend themselves to all kinds of photography. It featured a long telescoping bellows adjusted by rack and pinion focusing. The 5 x 4 model extended 16 1/2 inches. It was made in three sizes, a quarter-plate, a 5 x 4 and a half-plate. The back and front has full swings both ways over a considerable angle. The camera was sold by itself or with a shutter and lens combination. Three lenses/shutter combinations were offered including a Dallmeyer Stigmatic series-4 f6.3 lens with a diaphragmatic shutter pattern called the Silent Shutter, an Aldis Oxys f5.6 lens with a Bausch and Lomb shutter, and a Ross Homocentric f6.3 lens with a compound shutter. Prices ranged from £4 10s to £14 12s.
