The Monroe No. 1 camera was manufactured by the Monroe Camera Company from 1897 to 1899. A folding hand or stand camera made in two sizes, a 4 1/4 x 3 1/4 inch and a 4 x 5 inch. Constructed of highly polished wood with black morocco grain leather covering, a leather bellows and the all brass metal parts are polished and lacquered. It was fitted with a single achromatic lens with rotating stops and an instantaneous and time shutter. It also featured a engraved focusing scale, pivoted view finder, ground glass and focusing screen with sky shade.
