The Facile Hand Detective Camera was designed and manufactured by F. Miall, and sold by Jonathan Fallowfield in 1889. The early Facile was a magazine detective camera which was camouflaged in a brown paper parcel to resemble a parcel. The camera was constructed of mahogany and weighs approximately 4 lb.
The plates were stored in an internal rack and then dropped once exposed. It was fitted with a 5 inch Rapid Rectilinear lens and a simple reflex viewfinder on the top.
A more common looking focusing facile box camera was introduced in 1893 that refined the camera.
