Reflex Cameras by Reflex Camera Co.

The Reflex Camera line was manufactured by the Reflex Camera Company from 1898 to 1915. This camera was ideally suited for high speed photographs. The "patented Reflex hand camera" was first of this line manufactured when the firm was located in Yonkers, NY in 1898. The line was popular and one of the first US made reflex cameras. They were made in regular 4 x 5 and 5 x 7 inch sizes and also in Long focus 4 x 5 and 5 x 7 inch sizes. The cameras were constructed of wood with leather covering. The camera featured a fast focal plane shutter providing of exposures speeds from 1 to 1/1000 of a second. Later improved models were capable of 1/10 to 1/2000 of a second. Focus was possible by adjusting an internal bellows as viewed from the collapsible hood. An internal mirror projected the full sized image up to a ground glass up to the instant of exposure so that the image can be proper framed and focused.
