  No. 2 Birkbeck Hand Camera

The No. 2 Birkbeck Hand Camera was manufactured by E. G. Platt from approximately 1891 to 1900. It was similar to the No. 1 Birkbeck camera but with an improved lens and shutter mechanism. The camera made of mahogany wood, covered in the best leather. It was fitted with a Rapid rectilinear lens, iris diaphragm and a time, instantaneous and variable speed shutter. It featured two view finders and a door with a lock and key. The magazine was operated with a knob located at the top of the camera which also provided the exposure count. Exposed plates were removed by drawing a bolt which releases the a door at the bottom, without interfereing with the unexposed plates. The camera was priced at £3 17d 6d.
