The Tourist Graflex Camera was patented on December 16, 1902 and June 21, 1904 by the Folmer & Schwing Manufacturing Company. It was designed to meet demand for a reflex camera that is lighter in weight, more compact and less expensive, but retains all the previous features.

Constructed of select kiln dried and seasoned mahogany, that was impregnated to preclude the possibility of swelling or shrinking due to climate changes. The wood is joint-locked and reinforced by cross ties for strength. It is covered in black morocco leather covering with exposed wood areas given an ebony finish. All the metal is oxidized in a gun metal finish. Black leather bellows are made of french calf leather.

Features include heavy sawed and milled brass metal parts, Self contained telescoping with no removable parts, focusing hood has a shield conforming to the forehead, two tripod plates provided, heavy brass side arms racks out the front securely, a sliding door to protect the lens when not in use, additional ground glass in rear of camera provides register verification, rack and pinion focusing via a large milled head button. The tourist Graflex is made in the 4 x 5 and 5 x 7 inch sizes. This camera can accommodate the Graflex plate holders, Graphic magazine plate holder, Graflex magazine cut film holder, a film pack adapter, or a cartridge roll film holder. many lens options were available with prices ranging form $124.00 to $214.00.
