The Purma Special camera was designed by Raymond Loewy for the Purma Camera Ltd company and distributed by the R.F. Hunter company of London England from approximately 1937 to 1951. Unlike the original Speed model, the Special was constructed of plastic bakelite. It was capable of capturing sixteen 1 1/4 inch square exposures on standard No. 127 roll film. It was fitted with a Beck f6.3 three element Anastigmat lens and a three speed shutter proving speeds 1/25, 1/50 and 1/450 of a second. The lens was spring-loaded collapsing when the lens cap is installed. Another feature was a parallax-correcting built-in view finder. The Purma camera sold for $14.75 in 1939.
